GAL Bureaucrat Nominated to 2nd District Court!

(Alert for 6/6/04 — Updated on 7/12/04)

Update for 7/12/04: Parrish's nomination is over.  Gov. Walker nominated John R. Morris Jr. instead.  Morris must be confirmed by the Utah Senate.

Summary: Robert Parrish, a managing attorney for Utah's notorious anti-family Guardian ad Litem's office, has been nominated to fill a 2nd district court vacancy. Act now to make sure he does not obtain the power to abuse families on a far greater scale.

1. Judicial Nominating Commission Selects Rights Abuser

The Judicial Nominating Commission has chosen five nominees to fill a vacancy in Utah's 2nd district.  Among those nominees is Robert Parrish, managing attorney (Layton office) of the Guardian ad Litem Office.  Parrish also served as an Assistant Attorney General and was the Chief Child Abuse Counsel for the Utah Attorney General's Office.

GALs are tasked by state statute to represent the interests of the children involved.  As Accountability Utah has repeatedly pointed out in our publications (see the Due Process for Parents & Families section of our Issues & Alerts page), the GAL office is another tool to secure federal funds by destroying children and families.  In many cases we have documented, General Shurtleff and his subordinates have also been instrumental in these attacks.  See, for example, "DCFS Says AG's Office Doesn't Care About Children's Best Interest!" and "AG Shurtleff Denies Parker Jensen Treatment!"

If Parrish is allowed to become a judge, he will have virtually unchecked power to harass and attack innocent owners—and to further his unconstitutional, anti-family efforts.

2. Take Action!

We strongly recommend that you immediately take the following action:

1. Call (and, if possible, fax and email) the following officials:

  • Your own state senator.  Now is the time to begin putting appropriate political pressure on the senate, as it must confirm or reject Governor Walker's final nomination.
For help finding your senator, visit our elected official contact page.

Tell them to reject Robert Parrish and any candidate with a history of abusing the due process rights of citizens.  Please share your interactions with us at info@accountabilityutah.org.

2. Submit a formal comment of protest against Robert Parrish to:

  • Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Kelly Hansen
c/o Administrative Office of the Courts
    PO Box 140241
    Salt Lake City, UT 84114-0241
See a listing of the current Judicial Nominating Commission members.

3. Forward this message to your family, friends, and any activists you know. Encourage them to voice their concerns and get involved.

4. Monitor this site for new and updated information and join our alert list by e-mailing us at info@accountabilityutah.org.
